The logo for First Christian Church Crawfordsville incorporates numerous meaningful symbols:
The chalice and cross at the center of the logo visually represent Christ and his ministry of reconciliation that are at the center of our very identity. Essential to the founders of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) movement was Christ’s call to unity which is expressed every week at the Lord’s Table where we celebrate God’s gracious invitation and welcome of all people!
The uniquely shaped St. Andrew’s Cross on the chalice signals our heritage with Scotland through the founders of the Christian Church movement, Thomas and Alexander Campbell. By incorporating the Disciples chalice into our logo, we connect our local story with that of the larger Christian Church community.
The nature scene symbolizes the whole of God’s creation, with the water representing baptism, the sun representing the light of Christ, and the land representing the path and ever-summoning horizon of faith. It also specifically represents Montgomery County’s rural farm community by bringing to mind Sugar Creek and the abundance of the green Indiana farmlands. In its entirety, the scene expresses our devotion to the care of creation and our desire to bring God’s kingdom to earth.
The circular style and images in the logo mimic the stained glass in our sanctuary, signaling a connection to tradition paired with a contemporary, forward-looking sensibility. The asymmetrical colors and design represent FCC’s expression of the arts and our inclusive spirit that welcomes and celebrates the diversity of the human family.
The circle shape represents God’s eternal quality and our global vision to be a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world.
